RETHINKING Engineering Capstan Winch for onshore and offshore use The Capstan Winch is designed for secure and strong control of taglines, and it makes installation and lifting easy and safe. The handy size of the Capstan Winch makes it ideal for places with limited space, and it is easy to transport and store. The winch can be used as a permanent installation or a transportable unit, making it the perfect choice for both onshore and offshore operations. The Capstan Winch often work in pairs, and by guiding the rope through the guide rollers and around the drum, the operator can pay-in and pay-out tagline to keep the load from oscillating and turning (see principle 1). It is possible to achieve a completely controlled turn of the load if the operator of one Capstan Winch pays-out tagline while the operator of another Capstan Winch pays-in tagline. The Capstan Winch is controlled by foot pedals, and it has a pre-set speed feature to adjust the winch speed to the operating conditions in question. The winch is equipped with a safety mechanism allowing the tagline to wind-out when the tension in the tagline exceeds 10kN or 20kN. The Capstan Winch can be delivered with different base options, but due to its size, the winch can basically be applied everywhere as long as the structure is able to withstand 10kN or 20kN.
